The World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends widening access to medicines by being flexible with respect to intellectual property rights. This offers opportunities to develop new markets, but also risks criticism for not responding fast enough. We have therefore set up specific programmes in areas of our therapeutic expertise to target major diseases that affect developing countries.
